Started playing in 1990 with ORSU and moved to Seatte to play Superleague with the Beachdogs in ‘97. Played until succumbing to the effects of multiple concussions and becoming an epileptic at the end of the season in 2000. Played with the greatest teammates and fortunate to continue seeing them as not only teammates but more importantly old friends. Cheers! I did not go watch a Beach game for years as it hurt too much to not be out there and because I quickly found another way to follow and express my love for rugby. This is when fate grabbed me and before I knew it I was coaching with Scott Ward and teaching rugby and perhaps life to men who had just left the nest and were trying to get their feet underneath them. Some of the best memories of my life as our team came together and built lifelong friendships along with one of the very best college rugby programs the Northwest had ever seen. Truly a very special time for UW rugby with beating men’s teams during preseason, multiple undefeated league seasons and being a legitimate nationally ranked top ten team for a few seasons. Our success was a result of great people with common values who fortune smiled on and brought together at the same time. We were like family and many of them were there when I was married on New Year’s Eve 2003. Hilary and I have also been to a few weddings of my players over the years. Some of the boys worked for Kelly and my painting company, Flying Colors. The rest has been a blur…went back to school and received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. I have been a counselor for traumatized children, young men in lock down facilities and now for Sea Mar, a health provider in Washington. I had a near death experience and was in the hospital for a few months. Coached Oregon State Men’s rugby and like UW went from worst in the league to being nationally ranked. I was beyond fortunate to be there again like UW at the right time with the right people! Coached Eugene Men’s team and took them to the sweet 16 my last year at the helm. Also coached Pacific Coast Grizzlies senior women’s 7’s team for two years and won national title in 2011. Now I am director of coaches development for Clark county youth rugby. Hilary and I are also mom and dad to Ella and Mae our nine year old twins. Yes, people will now and then assume I am their grandfather…”your granddaughters are beautiful”, she said. “Ummm they’re actually my daughters”, said I. Then she actually kinda asked; “No way?!?”😂
