Match Recap: University of Oregon

It was a cold wet day, Husky weather and the dawgs were ready to go Duck hunting. The mindset was right, the game was won in 5 minute increments rather than thinking of the end result. At 20 minutes, Oregon got on the board with a converted try, which would be the only points of the first half. We contained the Ducks with seemingly no space to be found. A few visits to their half mostly ended with turnovers in the ruck, which was our biggest pain point of the game.

In the second half, the Huskies came out strong. We were carded for a dump tackle but came out of that 10-minute period a man down with a converted try by hooker Brian Cain Jr. and converted by fullback Sebastian Sosa. Tackle success and tackle dominance were focuses this week, and Oregon struggled to build momentum with their pods, our tackles sitting them down again and again.

A second UW yellow card meant we played 20-minutes down a man. Seb Sosa found an opening and split through defense, chipping the ball ahead where Captain Jaedan Johnson dove on the ball to score. Sosa converted, 2/2 on Saturday.

FINAL SCORE: UW 14-10 UO

Man of the Match was Vaea Tangitau, recently moved from the centers to #8. His carries were deadly to the Ducks, allowing us to build attacks with momentum.

Our second side chased the game throughout. 0-12 at halftime, then it was back and forth until they stacked a couple together. We were down 22-26 with 4 minutes to go, retained possession, and dotted down for a narrow win. Tries by Prop Caleb Jay (2), #12 Noah Griffaton, #4 Rory Stobie, and #13 Davis Mugisha.

FINAL SCORE: UW 27-26 UO

There is belief now, after turning up to dominate a team who has beat WWU. The conference is a tossup now, every team having lost at least one game.

Next week we take on OSU, who were undefeated until their game against WWU this weekend.
